State Theatre
Minneapolis’ Gilded Palace of Dreams
About this Venue
The State Theatre, which opened in 1921, was once considered the most advanced and elaborate theater in the nation. Designed in a free Italian Renaissance style by J.E.O. Pridmore, it featured innovations such as a glass stage floor, underlighting effects, and Minneapolis’ first air conditioning system. With seating for 2,181, it became a movie palace and live entertainment hub. After restoration, it stands today as a premier destination for concerts, Broadway tours, and special events.
